We use the best camera equipment and digital backs on the market. Many images were taken on 4x5 films over the past 25 years. The latest images added to our image bank are taken with the Phase One Camera which is rated as the best commercial camera on the market. We use Hasselblad Medium Format cameras to process the digital images.
Most of the images are over 200 megabytes. We also are highly trained in Photoshop techniques so that the images are toned and cleaned before we offer them for sale as prints.
You are purchasing the highest-quality photographic prints of memorable images from across the nation. Many feature the work of acclaimed photographer Carol M. Highsmith, who has captured more than 50,000 scenes of late-20th and early-21st century America for the Library of Congress and fine photographic coffee-table books. The Library of Congress is accepting her life's work in a rare archive that bears her name. Our aim is to vividly represent the grand sweep and variety of our endlessly fascinating nation, rather than a narrow niche of subjects or approaches. Thus, you will find a wide selection of regions, monuments and landmarks, city views, kinds of structures, and memorable scenes. Many not only depict great art but are of such beauty and quality as to constitute fine art themselves.
Among our offerings are carefully prepared enlargements of classic vintage photographs and posters from the Library of Congress collection. And because many Americans have a special affection for classic postcard views that depicted earlier times in many parts of the country, we also offer special enlargements of hundreds of favorite postcard scenes.
You will not find prints of such quality, selection, diversity of subject, and affordable prices elsewhere. We have taken special care to present visually stunning, classic, and often unusual scenes from the America of yesterday as well as today. Our selection includes thousands of images and is ever-growing. Please check this site frequently for new and featured acquisitions.
Your first view of our product will be of a relatively low-resolution "thumbnail" image on a page with other images. You will then have an opportunity to click on the image for a larger view. The resolution is relatively low to prevent unauthorized use of the product. Be assured that your selections will be prepared using the finest, high-resolution photographic printers' available, using high-quality inks on thick stock photographic paper.
Carol M. Highsmith is a distinguished and richly published American photographer. You can view her personal website entitled "CarolHighsmithAmerica.com" and you can see her Library of Congress reviews by using the Google search words "Carol M. Highsmith Library of Congress."
In addition to the work of acclaimed photographer Carol M. Highsmith, Photographs America is pleased to be able to offer the photography of Brendan Reals as well. Brendan has worked as Carol's photo assistant for years, being able to go out on photo shoots and learn from Carol firsthand. Brendan feels most at home though, carrying his 25 lbs. of camera gear & equipment up the sides of steep mountains or waking up an hour before the sun comes up in order to catch the sunrise. He enjoys outdoor pursuits of all acclaim including skiing, backpacking, rock climbing, ice climbing, snowshoeing, and mountaineering; in short there are very few places where he will not venture to take a photograph. Capturing the raw beauty of our great country is what Brendan strives for in his photography, and he is proud to offer his work here at Photographs America.com.
Both Carol M. Highsmith and Brendan Reals use the highest end photography equipment. Many of Carol's images have been taken with the 4x5 large format cameras. They now both use cameras manufactured by Phase One. These digital cameras, which are used by many professional photographers across the world, are the best of the digital spectrum of camera equipment. The quality of each image far surpasses anything that has been produced by cameras since the inception of the 8x10 equipment used by Ansel Adams. When you purchase prints by Carol M. Highsmith or Brendan Reals on PhotographsAmerica.com, you will be be buying a keepsake that will last for many, many decades.
